SEVEN-OUNCE PRODUCTIONS
What did you do last weekend? Mow the lawn? Run some errands? Take a short trip?
Was it a productive weekend?
What is a productive weekend?
In just 48 hours, from 7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday, four inspiring filmmakers created an award-winning short film, from raw conceptualization to the final edit.
Copcakes is a product of the challenging and exhilarating 48 Hour Film Project: Philadelphia, where 44 registered teams competed to see who had the wits – and the guts – to create a fresh vision and bring that vision to life under such inhumane time constraints.
Each team drew a distinct film genre, while all teams were required to use these three elements: character, M. Drake, magician; dialogue, “Get a move on. There’s no time to lose;” and prop, a Rolodex with cards.
Not all teams survived the challenge. In fact, nearly half were never heard from again. But one team in particular not only met the contest’s rigorous demands, but boldly discovered creative and comedic nirvana in the dark, lonely hours of the sleepless weekend.
Between the four filmmakers, 2004 marked the seventh 48 Hour Film Project undertaking. All the knuckle-cracking, carpet-pacing work has finally come to fruit in this, their most acclaimed project to date.
“What Rosebud was to Citizen Kane, the Easy Bake Oven is to Copcakes. Jared Cobb’s stellar performance establishes him as the next Samuel L. Jackson, only white.”
– Phil Hood, author of The Power of the 2x2 Matrix
